When a Woman Loves a Man . . . She Doesn't Want to Know the Truth About Him! Hollywood at Hyde Hall: The Heiress is first in our 2026 season's curated film festival. A naïve young woman falls for a handsome young man, her emotionally abusive father suspects is only a fortune hunter.

Discover the history of lighting at Hyde Hall’s magnificent Dining Room while enjoying historic cocktails. Explore how period lamps were fueled, lit, and used, and see demonstrations of historic lighting techniques with lamps and reflective surfaces. Each presentation is paired with a themed drink or treat for a memorable blend of history and flavor.

In our second Hyde Hall Talks lecture, Betsy Jacks, Executive Director Emerita of the Thomas Cole National Historic Site, explores how both men came to America seeking new beginnings and found inspiration in its landscape and opportunity.

Discover the life and work of prolific American painter Ellen Emmet Rand, a friend of the Clarke Family, at Hyde Hall. Author Alexis Boylan (Ellen Emmet Rand: Gender, Art & Business) will explore Rand’s remarkable career, including her portraits of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and other influential figures of the early 20th century.

Peter John Brownlee

September 19 l 5-6:30 pm

Samuel F. B. Morse’s Gallery of the Louvre (1831–33) is one of the most significant works of early 19th-century American art. George Clarke was the original owner of Gallery of the Louvre. It hung in Hyde Hall on the Drawing Room wall until George Clarke Jr. sold it in the 1840s.In this talk, the author explores Morse’s vision, technique, and the painting’s evolving legacy.

Death & Daguerre

October 3 l 5-7:30 pm

A photo exhibition of daguerreotypes and post-mortem photography explores the once-common practice of photographing the deceased. With high mortality rates, these images often provided families their only portrait of a loved one. The tradition reflected a more open, reverent view of death and remembrance.
